Godsey, Bob

He was named Lauderdale County Male Athlete of the Year in 1985. He played football, baseball, and basketball at Wilson High School. He played QB, RB, DB, and handled all kicking duties. He was selected All County, All Area, and All State, as DB, with team advancing to the semi-finals, in 1984. He was point guard on the basketball team. He was catcher, and cleanup hitter, on the 1985 State Championship Team. He was the first football player, from Wilson High School, to sign a football scholarship. He played quarterback at Troy University, 1985-1989. College highlights include leading the game winning drive against JSU for conference championship, and playoff bid, in 1986, 2 GSC Championships and the 1987 National Championship. He began his coaching career at Decatur High School in 1990, as an assistant football coach. In 1992 he took over the a program with limited success and in 7 years won 1 Morgan County title, 4 straight playoff appearances, and earned 2 trips to the quarter finals. Twice he was named Decatur Daily Coach of the Year. He returned to Lauderdale County, to coach at Brooks, in 1998. He took over the program that had won 2 games in 2 seasons and rebuilt the program into a state contender posting a 42-15 record including a 32-5 record his last 3 years with 3 playoff trips. The Lions won the county tile 2000-2002. He was named TimesDaily Coach of the Year in 2000. He moved to Hartselle in 2003 as head football coach. His team’s record was 108-39 with 11 playoff appearances, 4 region titles, 6 quarter final appearances, 2 semi-final appearances, and 1 state championship. He was named ASWA State Coach of the Year in 2010.
