Clanton, Anthony

Coffee High School

Clanton was a member of Shoals Junior Olympic basketball where at age 12 his team finished fifth at the National Championships in Indianapolis. He played point guard on the 1982 freshman team at Coffee that finished 25-0. He started three seasons on the varsity team. He was voted All-TVC team in 1983-84, All-Region 14 and 6A All-State team in 1985. He was the Times Daily Player of the Year in 1985. He lettered in track in 1985. He played basketball for two years at David Lipscomb, while helping the team to the NAIA National Championship in 1985-86. He played in the Goodwill Games in Tokyo in 1986, competing against Japan and Sweden. He transferred to UNA after his sophomore season and suffered a broken foot as a junior. He returned to start at point guard as a senior. He was team captain as a senior and made All-GSC Academic Team.
