Butler, Travis

It became apparent early that trying to stop Travis Butler would be impossible, so Lauderdale County
High School basketball opponents opted to try to contain him. They weren't successful doing that, either. Butler was a scoring and rebounding machine during his three years on the varsity squad at LCHS. He averaged 33.4 points and 15 rebounds every time he went to the floor during his junior and senior seasons. His talents attracted huge crowds every where his Tigers played. He was a First-Team All-State selection as junior and was the 3A Most Valuable Player during his senior season. His sweet shot and rebounding ability attracted the attention of college recruiters nationwide. When Kentucky's legendary coach Adoplh Rupp came calling, Butler could not refuse. He signed a scholarship with the Wildcats and their nationally recognized program. He quickly discovered Kentucky was not for him, so he opted to transfer to Athens College after a semester and a half. Butler averaged 17 points per game and made First Team All-District and honorable mention All-America during his senior season. During his final season, he led college basketball in free-throw percentage by connecting on 92 percent of his attempts.
