Lettered in three sports at Central High School, and was named the Lauderdale County Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year in 1988. In basketball he averaged 93% from the free throw line and he was named to the All-County team. In football he was named to the All-County Offensive team and received Times Daily Player of the Week honors multiple times. In baseball he averaged .444 at bat, stole 18/18 bases, and had 25 RBI’s, with 5 errors. He was named to the All-County and All-Area teams and played in Lions Club East West All-Star Series. He received a scholarship to play at Calhoun Community College where he led team with 41 runs scored, 4 triples, 16 stolen bases, and was selected to the Top Hitters List in AJCC/NJCAA Region XXII. He is in the top 5% in history of program for games played. He received a two year scholarship to UAB. He was First Team All-Conference and All-Tournament team his senior year, after missing most of his junior year due to a knee injury.
