His Coffee High School team placed second in state in 1986. Bodie was named the 1986 4A-6A Alabama Basketball Player of the Year. Following high school he played basketball at David Lipscomb University. He played for the Bison’s from 1986 through 1990. He was one of the most exciting players to wear a Bison uniform. In each of his four seasons he helped lead the Bison’s to a #1 national ranking. He scored more than 800 points, collected over 600 rebounds, and dished out nearly 750 assists, but Marcus Bodie was better known for his unbelievable quickness and tenacious defense. He graduated as the Bison’s most decorated defender, with National records for most steals in a game (10), in a season (175), and in a career (440). He was inducted into the David Lipscomb Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
