A 1984 graduate of Lexington, she was a standout performer in athletics and in the classroom. She began competing in track as an eighth-grader, in basketball in the ninth grade and in volleyball in the 10th grade. She was her team's most valuable player and made numerous all-star teams in all three sports, including All-County, All-Area, All-Region and All-State. She was captain of the Bears' volleyball team as a senior, a year that ended with a state championship. She was captain of the basketball team during her junior and senior years and was the TimesDaily MVP. She finished with 2,038 career points, averaging 28 points and 14 rebounds a game as a senior. She had 42 points in one game and finished her senior year shooting 65 percent from the field. In track, she began qualifying for the state track meet as an eighth-grader. She set a state record in the shot put as a freshman, winning gold, silver and bronze medals in the state meet. She also won the state shot put competition in her final three seasons, leaving with a state record best toss of 40 feet, 6 3/4 inches. She also won the state discus throw as a senior. She accepted a basketball scholarship to Troy but later returned to UNA where she was a starter on back-to-back Gulf South Conference championship teams.
