A three sport letterman at Central High School, 1973-1975, he played multiple positions on the football team earning him All-State honorable mention in 1975. In baseball he was named to the East-West All Star teams in 1974 and 1975. In 1975 he was named MVP in the North-South game after leading the team in home runs. In basketball he was an All-County, and All- Area performer, 1974 and 1975, and an All-State honorable mention in 1975. He averaged 16 points, and 13 rebounds, per game in 1975. He signed to play basketball at John C. Calhoun Community College where he averaged 10 points, and 6 rebounds, per game, his freshman season; and 12 points, and 10 rebounds, per game his sophomore season. He finished his collegiate career at Shorter University where he averaged 11 points, and 10 rebounds, per game. He led the GIAC conference in rebounding and made an All-Tournament team in 1978.
